Including quotes and content from other articles in your blog posts is often a great idea. But how much is too much? What will get you in trouble with Google or Copyright law?

Mike Allton‘s insight:

How Much Content is Duplicate Content?

I was recently asked by a reader how much content is considered duplicate content? She was asking because she does a lot of research in her blog posts and often includes extensive quotes and citations.

I’m sure most of us understand not to copy and paste entire pages, but what if you you need to include more than just a sentence or two from another source? What do you do? How much is too much?

It’s a topic that I’ve wrestled with myself, and so I’ve shared my opinions in today’s post: http://www.thesocialmediahat.com/blog/how-much-content-can-i-quote-blog-it-considered-duplicate-content-01162014

The essential best practices boil down to:

 – Cite Your Source
 – Include Your Voice
 – Check Usage Rights

If you stick with those practices and keep your reader’s best interests in mind, you’ll be on the right track.
